PALO SANTO - this tree has extraordinary properties and a unique fragrance. It occurs naturally in many South American countries, Mexico, and the Galapagos Islands. The name "Palo Santo" literally means holy wood, and it is considered by local shamans and healers to be an indispensable element of every ceremony. Pieces of wood rich in aromatic resin are used as natural incense.
According to the indigenous people of South America, the scent of Palo Santo has mind-cleansing properties, promotes meditation, and increases energy flow. It is used to smudge homes and ceremonial places to protect them from "bad energy."
In addition to its extraordinary aroma, Palo Santo resin has a number of health-promoting properties – it is antiseptic and anti-inflammatory.
Due to overexploitation, Palo Santo trees have been placed under special protection. Cutting down living trees is prohibited; only wood from dead trees and fallen branches may be collected.
To release the scent, light a piece of wood and after about 30 seconds extinguish it, allowing aromatic smoke to rise.
